Friends and Family

As we age, our animal friends can become a primary social and emotional bond. The importance of this bond should be honored when addressing care needs of older people. Far too often we are forced to choose between accepting needed ADL (Activities of Daily Living) care and keeping our companions. Fortunately, this is changing as advocates work to educate others about the importance of the human-animal connection. For a thorough (scholarly but readable) review of these relationships, read The Role of Pets in Human Healthy Active Aging. The pictures below are some of my favorites that show older people enjoying time with their companions.
